Angel Rock is an open-sea snorkeling site — you enter the water from a boat, and there is no shallow beach to stand on. We want you to know exactly what to expect so you can choose the right option. Participation always depends on sea conditions and the crew's safety assessment on the day.

You can float and paddle a little, but open water makes you uncomfortable.
Angel Rock is an open-sea site with no shallow beach to stand on. Non-swimmers must inform our team before booking.
A trained member of our team may accompany your group in the water, subject to availability and safety arrangements. We strongly recommend this option for non-swimmers, nervous beginners, and children. A guide also knows the reef and can point out marine life you might otherwise miss.
Available for confident swimmers and non-swimmers for LKR 1,000 per visitor, paid in cash on the day. It is not included in the standard trip price and is never charged online. Tick "Add a snorkeling guide / in-water lifeguard" in the booking form and we will confirm availability on WhatsApp.
We would rather tell you now than surprise you on the boat.
Deep water, no standing. Around Angel Rock the depth is roughly 3–10 m. You enter from the boat and float the whole time — there is no sandbank to rest your feet on.
Small waves and surge. Close to the rock the water pushes back and forth. It is harmless with a life jacket, but it can feel unsettling the first time.
Light current. On some days a gentle current runs past the rock. Guests are asked to stay on the sheltered side and within the crew's sight at all times.
Breathing through a snorkel is a skill. Most people need 5–10 minutes to relax into it. Mask fogging and a little water in the tube are completely normal.
The boat ride. 10–20 minutes across open sea. If you are prone to motion sickness, take a tablet 45 minutes before departure and choose the calmer morning departure.
Sharp rock and coral. Never stand on, hold or kick the reef — it hurts you and kills the coral. Fins keep you clear of it.
Sun and dehydration. Equator sun plus salt water. Reef-safe sunscreen, a rash vest and water are essential — the shared trip does not include bottled water.
Visibility varies. It is usually excellent, but after heavy rain or strong wind the water can turn milky for a day or two. We will always tell you honestly the evening before.
Children under 5 years old are not accepted on the Angel Rock snorkeling trip. The deep-water entry, the boat transfer and the surge around the rock are not appropriate for toddlers, and life jackets do not fit them safely. We will not take a booking for an under-5 — please do not book one. If you are travelling with a toddler, message us and we will suggest a calm beach or a short boat sightseeing ride instead.
Children aged 5–11 are welcome — and for every one of them we strongly recommend a snorkeling guide / in-water lifeguard in addition to the parent. One adult cannot reliably watch two children in open water.
Children must wear a correctly fitted life jacket at all times, on the boat and in the water — no exceptions, including for children who can swim well.
Every child must be accompanied by a responsible adult in the water, within arm's reach.
For families, the private boat is by far the better experience — you set the pace, and the crew can focus entirely on your group.

Every trip depends on sea conditions and the crew's safety decision — tours can be cancelled for safety reasons. If conditions are unsafe, we move your trip to the next available slot or refund 100%, your choice. We monitor the sea daily and message you the evening before.
