Absolutely wonderful experience Pigeon Island was our favourite destination in Trinconmalee, we saw over 300 individual fish. There were so many different coloured fish, and the waters and beach were void of any trash or pollution. On the day we went, we had spontaneously booked this experience with Pigeon Island Tours, another tour service had told me that all their tours were cancelled due to low visibility. But when we arrived and started snorkelling, even with the low visibility, we still had a wonderful experience.When you arrive on the island, the waters on the side where the boat arrives on has the sharks and turtles on that side. While the other side of the island has just fish. Both sides have beautiful coral reefs but the one on boat side has a larger reef.We had spent a majority of our time on the other side and it was wonderful. I think if we spent more time on the boat side, we would have seen more sharks. I was lucky enough to see an adult hawksbill turtle grazing on the coral as well as an adult blacktip reef shark. My friend however didn’t see them, so make sure to allocate time to swim on the boat side if that’s what you’re looking for.A tip would be to wear and bring your flipflops or sandals with you, as the area near the shore is covered in hard sharp dead corals. The snorkelling equipment provided was in good condition, and the tour arranged by Pigeon Island Tours was perfect.

Lots of dolphins! We started our trip at 5am where the conpany arranged a tuktuk pickup for our hotel in Trinconmalee (Our tuktuk driver was named Nandika, and our boat driver was named Karan)The waves weren’t too crazy too in the morning but as the hours went by we could feel the waves get stronger. You should definitely take some sort of motion sickness medication beforehand.We had originally hoped to see some whales but were unfortunately unable to see the beautiful animals. We did however see over 100 dolphins in the water. Our boat driver, Karan had initially stayed with the other boats when pursuing the dolphins but later moved to a different less crowded spot.This was a wonderful move in my opinion as the dolphins were less stressed over the fact that so many boats were chasing them. In our new area, since it was only us and one other boat, the dolphins became much more confident and would more often playfully jump out of the water or curiously swim right next to our boat.The trip was a wonderful experience, but it would have been perfect if we saw whales. With Karan’s 8 years of working in dolphin and whale watching, he told us that January or April would have had given us better odds at seeing them.

Pigeon Island Tours - great experience We had a fantastic experience with Pigeon Island Tours! They really looked after us, from arranging the Tuk Tuk to the island entry fee. We were dropped off on the island and left to explore the reefs. We saw a fantastic array of sea life including black tip reef sharks and moray eels. This is really friendly company to book with. We could have gone with another operator but chose this one as the communication was great. They are now my go to choice.

Dolphins guaranteed! Overall beautiful experience. Pigeon island tours arranged a pick up from our hotel by tuktuk. Turns out we were the only people that booked this morning so we got a free upgrade to a private tour! The man that took us on the boat was very experienced and kind. We were very lucky to see three blue whales which is very unlikely according to someone working at our hotel. You are guaranteed to see dolphins.

Wonderful island Very nice experience and good people.We saw many sharks, turtles and wonderful fishes.The only little disadvantage was that our guide didn’t know english but at least the owner has good English and he is very nice guy.

Great service. They can take private group bookings, and work to your exact timings. All equipment provided, fitted to you. Pigeon Island sea life is very biodiverse: saw black fin shark, turtle, squid, and many colorful tropical fish. Excellent.

We had a great time on our snorkelling tour to Pigeon Island. Staff were all very helpful, a tuk tuk was arranged to pick us up from our hotel and we were met at every point by friendly people who helped us get smoothly to and from the island. Equipment was provided and a bottle of water too. We chose not to pay for a guide but the company’s instructor made sure we didn’t leave without seeing some sharks! Definitely recommended!
